What is a AMR file?
Ericsson developed this file extension and named it AMR. It stands for the Adaptive Multi-Rate ACELP Codec file. In case you are wondering, we are talking about a human speech audio compression algorithm or Algebraic Code Excited Linear Prediction (ACELP). It means that AMR file format used for encoding speech-based audio files, voice recording, and VoIP applications. You can save every AMR file in two different extensions, AMR-NB (Narrowband) and AMR-WB (Wideband). The only difference between these two is that a Wideband provides better sound quality. What is a AC3 file?
A file with an AC3 extension uses lossy compression to reduce the overall size of a file. AC3 stands for Audio Codec 3 created by Dolby Laboratories. This type of file supports the surrounding sound. It has a separate track for each of six speakers of a surround sound setup. One speaker is dedicated to low-frequency subwoofer output, while others are dedicated to the normal range. It means that the AC3 format has a 5:1 surround sound setup. This type of file is mostly used for audio in movie theaters, video games, and DVDs.
